About Baldock and Letchworth Folk Club
Baldock and Letchworth Folk Club started out at the beginning of 1999 as the Mad Nanny! Folk Club. Our intention was to offer a diversity of folk and traditional music.
Like many folk clubs we've moved around a bit! Since 2010, we have been back in the Orange Tree, Baldock - check out the Contact Us page to find out how to get to the folk club, or click here.
The Orange Tree is now under the management of Rob and Ros Scahill. Renovations are under way and there have already been changes such as doors between the two bars, to cut down on noise! An extension will be built shortly which will give the folk club much more room. See the Orange Tree's website here
You don't have to be a member to attend the folk club, but it does offer the benefit of discounted entry. Joining is easy; annual membership only costs £5, and guarantees a discount of at least £1 on any guest night.
Baldock & Letchworth Folk Club hosts a wide range of guest artistes, from folk icons to talented newcomers, and encompass a diversity of styles, including traditional and contemporary acoustic music and folk from many countries, bluegrass and blues.
Previous guests at the folk club have included such iconic names as Jez Low, Andy Irvine, Martin Carthy, Dave Swarbrick, Aly Hulett, John Kirkpatrick, Julie Felix, Bob Fox, Tom McConville, Megson, Nancy Kerr and James Fagan, Bruce Molsky, Isla StClair, Dick Gaughan, Vin Garbutt and Les Barker.
Guests are supported by a resident band or singers, and amateur singers and musicians are welcome to perform as ‘floor spots’ on guest nights. Everyone can play at the folk club's less formal session/singaround nights - the ideal way to try out that new song before standing up at the front! We also host regular showcases which feature a selection of acts.
Children are very welcome at all folk club evenings, and up to two under 16s get free entry when accompanied by an adult. Entry prices vary according to the guest performer, and there are concessions for people who aren't working, are students or who are of retirement age.
We hope you can join us at the folk club for some wonderful live music!
