Based in West Berkshire, our client is an IT Solutions company enjoying continued success and growth. A vacancy exists within the Research & Development Department for a QA Technical Author.

This is a great opportunity to join a small and rapidly growing team environment where you will participate in the creation and maintenance of product help files for a variety of software development projects. The role “may” involve travel within the UK and overseas, so a valid driving licence is essential.

Main Accountabilities:

  • To develop and maintain product help files using various documents provided by the R&D team e.g. writing, updating and proof reading of help files.
  • Assist and take day to day direction on tasks from the Senior Technical Author
  • Ensure that the documentation provided by the R&D team is adequate and fit for the purpose of creating help files and to return if unsatisfactory e.g. gathering and editing of subject specific knowledge data & collaboration with internal subject matter experts.
  • Provide a small amount of administrative support to the Release Manager by providing reports from our internal Daisy system and update the Release spread sheet to ensure that content is up to date.
  • Improve and maintain the Release notes for every release
  • Provide reports that improve the delivery of the Software such as full CVS Content.
  • To advise colleagues, when appropriate, in the remedial action needed to resolve system errors and deficiencies, documenting any changes recommended
  • To cover for colleagues, as and when required, in all areas where knowledge overlaps.

Main duties/responsibilities:

  • Take ownership of the documentation of the Accounting application. This will involve liaising with staff from most departments.

Personal Skills:

  • Good interpersonal skills to interact with diverse groups of individuals; able to maintain effective work relationships
  • Able to work under pressure with limited time, direction and guidance with a pragmatic approach to complete tasks in a timely and accurate manner.

QA Knowledge/Experience:

  • Strong analytical skills
  • Very good knowledge of English, both spoken and written.
  • Industry knowledge – experience of one or more documentation
  • At least 2 years’ experience of working as a Technical Author and ideally within a QA/Release environment preferably in the field of software documentation.
  • Strong affinity to writing and computer science.
  • Experience developing hand coded HTML and reading source XML.
  • Good computer skills, ideally with an understanding of programming.
  • An understanding of programming structures such as ‘C’
  • Familiarity with micro/minicomputer concepts and systems (UNIX, Linux, Windows, and applications such as Microsoft Office, Microsoft Project)
